All of our Tutors are experienced practitioners who currently work with students all year round as part of our academic English teaching business “A-Star English”.

They all hold English degrees as a minimum and in most cases post graduate qualifications. Our lead Tutors hold currently Teaching English as Foreign Language (ELT) qualifications and we are as a company experienced in delivering this work for general English, business English and IELT examination revision.


Leanne Oliver B.A. (hons) P.G.Cert

Director/lead tutor         

Leanne Oliver completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Winchester in 2000, gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in English Studies. She then continued her studies into a Post Graduate Certificate at the same establishment.  Upon leaving education in 2001, she set up the business A-Star English, a now ten year old agency, providing private English tuition to individuals or groups to both British and international students. She has taught English Language, Literature and Linguistics throughout this time. Leanne has decided to develop the ELT side of the business into a new venture Everso English, launching in 2012. Leanne holds a ELT certificate.


Andrew Dyne B.A .(hons )P.G.dip


Andrew Dyne completed his undergraduate degree at Liverpool University in 2002, gaining a  Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours  in English and History. In 2003 he gained his Post Graduate Certificate through Leicester University and graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma through Winchester University in 2009. Since then Andrew has also gained a Diploma to teach in the adult learning sector. Andrew has worked for the A-Star English team since 2010 and is familiar with ELT, having worked for various companies, helping non-native English speakers improve their spoken and written English skills.

Amy Boennic B.Sc .(hons) P.G.C.E.


Amy completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter in 2003, gaining a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours. She then worked as a Learning Support Assistant, before gaining her Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 2007 from Southampton University. Amy has worked as a primary school teacher since then, as well as working for A-Star English providing tuition to both primary and secondary pupils. Amy also speaks Spanish.


Marina Rowlandson B.A. (hons)


Marina studied English and Education at Winchester University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in 2002. Marina has worked as a tutor in the private education sector since then, working with individuals and small groups. Marina has worked with Leanne on the annual workshops run by A-Star English, offering revision prior to public exams

Joanna Longden M.A.


Joanna is currently working towards her Doctorate of Philosophy at The University of Winchester, having completed her Master’s Degree and gained a First Class Degree with Honours in English Studies. Joanna has taught both English Language and English Literature to British and international students as part of the A-Star English team and independently for many years.  Joanna speaks Swedish, French and Norwegian and is able to use her own experience of living and learning abroad, in her approach to assisting her own students.

Nick Barwick MA(Oxon), MA (Education), MInstGA, UKCP reg

Nick read English at Oxford before qualifying as a teacher at the University of Bristol and taking a Masters in Language, Literature and Education at the University of Sussex. More recently he has continued his graduate studies in various areas of psychology at the Universities of London, East London (in association with the Tavistock) and the Institute of Group Analysis. He is a published author of both fiction and academic work and was, for fifteen years, editor of an international journal. After teaching English Language and Literature for nearly twenty years in the secondary and tertiary sectors, since the late 90s he has worked mainly in Higher Education, as a therapist and lecturer on a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses.
